Problems downloading game from Google Play Store

If you're having problems downloading an app or game from the Google Play Store or if you get the message that your device "isn't compatible with this version" (despite your device being reasonably modern and updated) then we recommend you follow these steps below which can help to reset some settings and hopefully resolve your issue.


After each step, check the Google Play Store to see if your issue is resolved.


  1. Clear cache data for Google Play Store app

    • Open your device's Settings app Settings.
    • Scroll down and tap Google Play Store Google Play.
    • Tap Storage > Clear Cache.
    • Next, tap Clear data.
    • Re-open the Play Store & try your download again. 
  2. Restart your device.

    • Press and hold the Power button until the menu pops up.
    • Tap Power off or Restart if that is an option.
    • Tap OK to confirm.
    • If needed, press and hold the Power button until your device turns on again.
    • After the device boots re-open the Play Store & try your download again. 
  3. Clear cache data for Google Play Services

    • On your Android phone or tablet, open your Settings app Settings > Apps
    • At the top of the screen, tap More More>  Show system
    • Scroll down and tap Google Play services.
    • Tap Storage > Clear Cache.
    • Next, tap Manage Space > Clear all Data
    • Open the Google Play Store Google Play.
    • Wait for 5 minutes, then try your download again. 
  4. Uninstall updates for the Play Store app    

    • Make sure you’re connected to a reliable Wi-Fi connection. 
    • On your Android phone or tablet, open your Settings app Settings>  Apps
    • Scroll down and tap Google Play Store Google Play
    • At the top of the screen, tap MoreMore> Uninstall updates
    • If you’re asked if you want to change the Play Store app back to the factory version, tap OK
    • Re-open the Play Store & try your download again. 
  5. Uninstall updates for Google Play Services 

    • Go to Settings Settings> Apps > Google Play Services.
    • At the top of the screen, tap MoreMore> Uninstall updates
    • If you’re asked if you want to change the Play Servces app back to the factory version, tap OK
    • Open the Google Play Store and look for an update to Google Play Service
    • Re-open the Play Store & try your download again. 
  6. Clear cache & data from Download Manager
    1. On your Android phone or tablet, open your Settings app Settings> Apps
    2. At the top of the screen, tap More More> Show system
    3. Scroll down and tap Download Manager.
    4. Tap Storage > Clear Cache > Clear Data
    5. Open the Google Play Store, then try your download again. 
  7. Remove and Re-add Google Account:

    • To Remove Google Account
      • On your Android phone or tablet, open your Settings app Settings.
      • Under "Personal," tap Accounts.
      • Tap Google > the account you want to remove. 
      • Tap More More and then Remove account.
      • If needed, enter your device's pattern, PIN, or password to finish removing the account.
    • To Re-Add Google Account:

      • On your Android phone or tablet, open your Settings app Settings.
      • Under "Personal," tap Accounts > Add account > Google. 
      • Follow the onscreen instructions to add your account. 
      • Open the Google Play Store app Google Play
      • Tap Menu Menu.
      • Look for the name and email address of the account you're using at the top of the screen.
      • Tap the Down arrow Down Arrow > the account you want to use.
      • Try your download again.
  8. Check for Android System Updates
    • On your Android phone or tablet, open your Settings app Settings
    • Scroll down & tap About phone > System updates
    • Check to see if an update is available and install if available
    • After the device is finished installing and system updates re-open the Play Store & try your download again.

Note: In some cases the message "Your device is not compatible with the version" may be true. Each game has different requirements for minimum version of Android, necessary hardware features and more than can prevent players from downloading the game on inappropriate hardware.
